Arnold A. Lewin has been in motor freight in the San Diego area for over 20 years. Starting as a driver for major carriers, Lewin moved into management after three years. He became Terminal Manager for McLean Trucking in San Marcos and then was promoted to Tucson, Arizona. When McLean Trucking filed for bankruptcy, Lewin joined the sales department of Consolidated Freightways. After three years Lewin established Southwest Traffic Services. One year later, Lewin petitioned the California Public Utilities Commission to establish Southwest Motor Tariff Bureau, Inc. Authority was granted in 1986 and four tariffs were written and on file by January 1988. In the first four years, over 35 carriers had joined the Bureau.
Lewin is also president of Southwest Traffic Services, a company serving as a consultant to California interstate and intrastate common and contract carriers. Assisting with the interpretation of rates, rules, and regulations of the Federal Highway Administration, the Department of Transportation and the California Public Utilities Commission. Southwest Traffic Services also advises passenger operations; i.e. airport shuttles, limousines, and bus lines as to the rules and regulations of the FHWA, the DOT and CPUC.
Since 1989, Arnold Lewin has been an instructor in the Extension Program of the University of California at San Diego and at the University of California at Los Angeles, teaching Industrial Traffic Management. The course concentrates on the rules and regulations of:
